The Optometric Glaucoma Foundation

Glaucoma affects more than 80 million individuals worldwide, damages the optic nerve leading to the loss of vision and, if not controlled, leads to blindness.  Glaucoma affects more than 2.5 million Americans over the age of forty, with prevalence doubling over the next few decades; approximately one half of these individuals are undiagnosed. Optometrists, being primary eye care providers, are well positioned to have an important role in preventing visual impairment from glaucoma.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Optometric Glaucoma Fellowship (OGF) is to support glaucoma education for the optometric profession. This would include supporting educational programs for students, residents, educators and practitioners. The OGF will also promote excellence in the care of patients with glaucoma, support glaucoma research and provide the underpinnings to allow optometrists to be involved in research. This will require the cooperation between optometrists, ophthalmologists, scientists, educators, industry members, and patients, to achieve success.
